Going Live
During the period we are working on your new website, it will have a temporary domain e.g. mysite.flywheelsites.com. When you’re ready to go live, your actual domain name mysite.com will be used.
If you don’t have a domain name for your web site yet, we will provide one for you and make all the necessary changes.
If you already have a domain name, we offer different options, depending on your preference.
If you don’t have a domain name
Relax and enjoy: we’ll take care of everything – and by the way, there’s no need for you to purchase a domain name.
If you already have a domain name
We use Cloudflare services for the purposes of increasing the security and performance of our websites. That’s one more reason our websites are so fast and secure! Basically, an account with Cloudflare needs to be created – it’s 100% free – and then the domain name changed so it routes the web site traffic through it.
There offer 3 options:
Option A: you want us to set up Cloudflare and take care of everything for you
1. Let us know that your website is ready to go live.
2. Please provide login credentials to your domain name registrar’s account – GoDaddy, NetFirms, etc. – so it we can make it go through Cloudflare and point to your new website. After we’re done, you can change your login info, of course. Keep in mind that your domain name will remain 100% yours.
2. We will take care of everything, and let you know when it’s all done.
Please note that it may take a few hours until the new web site goes live, as domain changes can take a while to propagate.
Option B: you prefer to create and use your own Cloudflare account
If you prefer to use your own Cloudflare account, follow these steps:
1. Let us know that your website is ready to go live, so we can set a few things up from our end.
2. If you don’t already have an account with Clooudflare, go to https://www.cloudflare.com and sign up. It’s free.
3. Add your site to Cloudflare:
- Click +Add Site on the top right and add the domain name
- Set Up SSL for the site
- Click the Crypto button on the main toolbar.
- Set SSL to Flexible.
- Set Always Use HTTPS to On.
- Set Automatic HTTPS Rewrites to On.
4. Change your name servers with your domain registrar so they point to an IP Address that we will provide.
- Make the DNS changes in Cloudflare:
- Remove any existing A Records from the DNS. Do not remove any MX Records.
- Add an A Record for the domain name, and point it to an IP Address we will send you
- Add a CNAME for the www, and point it to the domain name.
- Change your name servers to use those specified by Cloudflare.
4. Once those changes have been made, please let us know.
Note: it may take a few hours until the new web site goes live, as domain changes can take a while to propagate.
Option C: you can get the DNS changed yourself, but don’t want to set up the Cloudflare account
If you feel comfortable making DNS changes – or can get your domain registrar to do them for you – but don’t want to set up the Cloudflare account, we can accommodate that too. Follow these steps:
1. Let us know that your website is ready to go live, so we can set a few things up from our end.
2. Make these changes to your DNS: (or ask you registrar to do them for you)
- Remove any existing A Records from the DNS. Do not remove any MX Records.
- Add an A Record for the domain name, and point to an IP Address that we will provide.
- Add a CNAME for the www, and point it to the domain name.
- Change your name servers to use these 2 name servers only:
marjory.ns.cloudflare.com
nick.ns.cloudflare.com
3. Once those changes have been made, please let us know.
Note: it may take a few hours until the new web site goes live, as domain changes can take a while to propagate.
